Introduction:
A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions. The proportion of emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) has increased exponentially in the last decades, causing an increase in the temperature of the Earth due to the absorption of infrared radiation.
Why it matters:
By calculating carbon footprints, companies can find significant cost-saving opportunities, reduce the carbon intensity of their products and services, as well as comply with relevant regulatory frameworks.

Introduction:
In this time of transition, companies and government agencies are seeking solutions to resolve complex societal, economic, and environmental issues and challenges. New business models are developed to optimize circularity and sustainable social and environmental values, and at the same time to maintain economic viability for businesses. In a circular economy, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting.
Why it matters:
The circular economy tackles climate change and other global challenges, like biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, by decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources. With circular business models, organizations are provided with an understanding to position their business in a circular context and meet future demands of the circular economy.

Introduction:
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or Analysis, assesses the environmental effects associated with a product, process, or service throughout its entire life cycle. The term ‘life cycle’ refers to the series of stages in the form and functional activities of a product, service, or process. LCA can be used to evaluate environmental impacts associated with a product’s life cycle from cradle-to-grave starting from raw material extraction, transportation, materials processing and manufacturing, distribution, to usage, maintenance, and disposal. This can be done by identifying the energy, materials used, and emissions released to the environment.
Why LCA matters:
Through Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), organizations can reduce their environmental impact more efficiently, design more environmentally friendly products, and use the knowledge in marketing and brand promotion efforts. At the end of the day, this would help organizations take a more sustainable approach to their business.
